Itinerary

Day 1: Yulara

Stop At: Yulara, Yulara, Red Centre, Northern Territory
Welcome to Yulara, located on Anangu land in the red centre of Australia. You are welcome to arrive at any time today before an important welcome meeting at 5 pm, where you will meet your local leader and fellow travellers. Although being deep in the outback, Yulara is surprisingly accessible, with flights arriving from major Australian cities and transfers available from Alice Springs, approximately 4.5 hours away. Once you’ve had your all-important briefing, join with your leader and possibly a First Nations guide as they lead you on a Welcome or Acknowledgement of Country. This practice occurs all across Australia to understand and recognise the land that you find yourself on – land of immense significance to First Nations communities.

Stop At: Field of Light, Ayers Rock, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory Australia
Tonight, enjoy your own dinner at one of the on-site restaurants then retire to your accommodation, or take the option to witness the Field of Lights before heading off to bed. You do have the option to sleep under the stars in a swag, or otherwise, enjoy a comfortable tented room with a fully-made bed and electricity.

Day 2: Kata Tjuta / Uluru / Yulara

Stop At: Kata Tjuta - The Olgas, Kata Tjuta Rd, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory 0872 Australia
Rise and shine nice and early for some spectacular sunrise viewing as you make your way to Kata Tjuta, where you’ll embark on a walk to the Walpa Gorge. Sandstone cliffs rise high above as you continue through the gorge, shrouded by shadows and full of First Nations history. If you’ve got the energy you can choose to tackle the legendary Valley of the Winds. This six-kilometre walk can be challenging, but you’re rewarded with a spectacular perspective on mind-blowing rock formations. Return to camp for lunch where you and the group can decide where you would like to eat, with a number of dining options available in Yulara.

Stop At: Uluru Rd, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory 0872 Australia
Enjoy some free time in the afternoon – perhaps book yourself on an Outback ride with a bike or a camel as your mode of transport – then reconvene with the crew for a memorable sunset viewing Uluru. Graze on a spread of locally sourced bush tucker, take the time to understand the importance of this sacred rock to the local Anangu people. Afterwards, spend the night enjoying an Outback barbecue dinner under the stars, then maybe swap stories sitting around the campfire. Tonight, you also have the option of sleeping in swags or tents.

Day 3: Uluru / Kings Canyon

Stop At: Kings Canyon, Kings Canyon, Red Centre, Northern Territory
Get up with the sun and embark on a walk around Uluru at sunrise, watching as the colours of the rock shift as night turns to day. No two angles of the sacred monolith are the same and its sheer size will leave you marvelling. Continue on to Kings Canyon – where you will spend the night. Snack on a packed lunch on the way and enjoy a walk and talk to discover the bush tucker and bush medicines used for spiritual and healing purposes by the Luritja and Pertame (Southern Aranda) people. When you arrive in Kings Canyon this afternoon, you’ll have some free time to chill out by the pool or perhaps book in on an optional activity. Some of the most incredible scenery of these landscapes are found from up above, so why not treat yourself to an unforgettable plane or helicopter experience over Kings Canyon? Be sure to ask your group leader about your options.

Stop At: Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, Lasseter Highway, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory Australia
Perhaps purchase some art and craft of the First Peoples of Australia, at the Uluru Cultural Centre.

Day 4: Kings Canyon / Alice Springs

Stop At: Kings Canyon, Kings Canyon, Red Centre, Northern Territory
Get ready for another day of sun-soaked scenery in Australia’s outback. Join your group on a morning walk along the rim of Kings Canyon. Admire the marbled red cliffs as they plummet to the forest floor from up above, making sure you capture all the scenery with some epic panorama images. Discover its Amphitheatre, Lost City, North and South Walls and the surprisingly lush Garden of Eden, which owes its cycads and plant life to a permanent waterhole down in the canyon. If you’re feeling like an easier walk you can also take the Kings Creek Walk by yourself – it’s shorter but won’t miss the spectacular views of the canyon

Stop At: Alice Springs, Alice Springs, Red Centre, Northern Territory
Make your way to Alice Springs and later join your travel pals for dinner at a local restaurant. A great chance to celebrate your outback Australia adventure with a drink or two – your group leader knows of all the best watering holes to go to.

Day 5: West Macdonnell Ranges / Alice Springs

Stop At: Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park, 7km from Alice Springs Along Larapinta Drive, Northern Territory Australia
Spend today exploring the Outback scenery of the West Macdonnell Ranges. Head to Ellery Creek Big Hole and Ormiston Gorge for a swim and relax on the beaches by the waterholes, or perhaps take a hike to check out more of the area. These two stops are part of the West MacDonnell Ranges and are traveller's favourites – not only for the swimming options available, but the incredible outback scenery that greets you at every turn.

Stop At: Alice Springs, Alice Springs, Red Centre, Northern Territory
In the afternoon, make your way back to Alice Springs, and after freshening up at your accommodation, enjoy a memorable bush tucker and stargazing experience. Under a blanket of stars, follow the constellations above as you listen to expert guides tell the stories of the ground beneath your feet and the heavens above. Afterwards head back to your accommodation in town.

Day 6: Alice Springs

Stop At: Alice Springs, Alice Springs, Red Centre, Northern Territory
With no activities planned for today, you are free to leave the accommodation at any time. That doesn’t mean your adventure has to come to an end! If you would like to spend more time in Alice Springs and explore more of the Red Centre, we’ll be happy to organise additional accommodation (subject to availability).

  • 3. If your trip departs on a Saturday you will be running on a slightly altered itinerary. Instead of the Karkke Cultural Experience in Kings Canyon on Day 3 of your itinerary you will visit an amazing dot painting workshop on the afternoon of Day 2, where you will be taught by a local Anangu artist about traditional art, symbols, tools and more.

    This tour was better than what I expected. Justin was just amazing, very interesting and very worried about the confort of the group. I have learned a lot with him and the places we visited were beautiful. It was powerful. Also all the rest of the team on the tour were so nice, they cooked for us and it was so good. All the timing of the journeys was perfect. The trip was fun and incredible. I recommend this tour ans i hope to come back one day. Thank you for all, all of this trip will stay in my memory for ever.

    Just came back from the most amazing tour I ever did in Australia : Rock the Centre. This 3Day tour was truly breathtaking, perfectly organized and very respectful to the indigenous people. We felt a greater understanding towards them and their history. We got to see so much in only 3 days : Uluru (sunset/sunrise and Base Walk), Kata Tjuta (with the walk through the Valley of the Winds) and Kings Canyon (doing the 8km Canyon Rim Hike). I am so thankful to have spent those 3 amazing days with such a mixed and sweet group. Our tour guide Phil made our trip unforgettable and magic! Not only was he so knowledgeable about the area and the people but he was so fun, passionate, patient, the best driver and always looked after us! Thanks for making our trip so special Phil! Christie and Seb were also the best hosties and their meals were terrific! This tour is definitely a must-do experience that we will never forget! I highly recommend this tour! Laureen

    These 3 days were a blast in the outback. The staff, Amy and Kiran were amazing; great sense of humor and very knowledgeable. We had a couple (the man was in his 70's) in our group. Kiran was able to accommodate their fitness level. Highly recommend to anyone to see the red center. I was also really happy with the customer support team; one of my flights got canceled making it so I'd not longer make it to Alice Springs the day before (so I would be there for the 6am pickup). They told me, if I could fly into Uluru that morning, they could update my pickup so I could be on the same tour (which I was able to do). Their instructions on where to meet the guide were clear and I appreciated the flexibility. A few things to highlight: -This is a real glamping trip. Electricity and hot showers at the campsite. Wine with dinner. I was not expecting this level of comfort. -while there are tents for everyone, they also have the option of sleeping outside. If it's not too cold at night (it could be in winter) it is really fun to do. -bring a swim suit; you'll have access to a pool on one of the days and, with the heat, it's nice to take a dip. -this is less about the tour, but the flies are notorious in the outback. If you think this will bother you, buy a fly net.

    This trip was great. Mainly due to our guide Niall who was authentic, considerate, humorous, spiritual, respectful and had great knowledge. Overall he was inspirational. Also the host Dat took very good care of us and made some great meals. The trip is as it is described everywhere but then goes beyond your expectations. Niall and Dat, many thanks for this wonderful experience and the group for your pleasant company. Renee

    The food for guests with dietary restrictions was terrible. Vegetarians and vegans were given meatless baloney slices as a meal replacement while other guests got chicken wings, steaks, sausages, etc. I spent most of the trip hungry and tired as a result. I had to buy my own food at every opportunity when we stopped at gas stations etc. or I would run the risk of being barely fed. While being vegetarian or vegan is often a choice, it is not acceptable to simply feed them insufficient meal replacements. Gluten-free guests were also given no replacements for breads, despite having registered beforehand. Also, the food waste was appalling - so much food was thrown directly into the trash. Further, the host (Katie) was very indifferent to the guests. During her welcome speech, she said that if we needed anything we could go to her, yet on the second day, she did not make enough vegetarian patties for all of the guests (3) who needed them, and told us to cook our own while she finished "other work" on the site. On the plus side, the bus was very comfortable and clean. The Aboriginal Tour was the highlight of the trip. The sites were stunning and worth the drive, but in future I would warn other travels (especially if they have any dietary restrictions) to think carefully about taking this organized tour and would instead suggest they visit the sites on their own, given how very expensive this tour was for such minimal and mediocre service.

    Three of our family went on the Rock to Rock tour with Adventure (3 days, 2 nights. As a couple with 25yr old daughter we all had a fabulous time and were able to see lots in 3 days. Meg did a great job driving us out to Kings Canyon for the night and back to see Uluru and the Kata Tjuta the next day. She was very friendly had lots of interesting facts to tell us. She always kept good time. So we were at sunset and sunrise in plenty of time. Food was great and we had plenty of it. Champagne and nibbles at sunset were great. That’s all you need on a cold night. Went back to camp for dinner when we were ready. Not rushed at all. Only negative for me was that there was no lights in the tents at Kings Canyon (should’ve taken a head light which was advised). The 2nd nights accommodation at Yulara was much more comfortable. Being August both nights were very cold. We bought their sleeping bags which were ok but we slept in our clothes as well! Overall a great trip and would recommend it as a way to see everything in a short time. Lots of fun. Thanks Meg Sally, Steve and Chloe

    I had a great time on the 3 day Rock to Rock tour from Yulara. Our guide Claire is a legend and made the trip so much fun! The tour was really organized and well run. I especially loved Kings Canyon and sleeping in a swag under the stars. Amazing trip to end my time in Australia.
