We booked this tour in April with the border closure refund policy in mind. We paid our balance at the end of August, and just over a week later got an email saying our tour was cancelled. We were asked if we wanted a date change or refund. We asked for a refund. For the next six weeks following this, despite us emailing, messaging, calling etc, we only heard back once. I ended up having to contact NT consumer affairs (speak to Amanda - she was a great help) who provided me with other avenues to pursue. We of course understand that the current time is hard for tourism businesses such as this, however, a little communication goes a long way. Not hearing anything back, we feared we would never see our $4000 and they were ignoring us to be dodgy. I finally got my money back yesterday after saying my next step was to go to VCAT and lodge a legally binding order for a refund. The whole experience was really stressful. Communication would have completely changed the course of how we felt about this situation and what we needed to do to rectify it.

Our guide Leigh with Emily his offsider made the trip. The accommodation, itinerary, food and transport were all good but it was the experience, knowledge, energy and charisma of the guides that gives it the 5 star. Leigh had so much knowledge to share on the geology, fauna, flora, culture, and much more besides. In particular his passion and respect for the aboriginal culture was infectious. Unfortunately Covid has sent a wrecking ball through tourism. wayoutback have spent up big on their transport and camps but there are a few little things that need to be done to improve the overall experience. The nights were uncomfortably hot and fans in Jabaru & Katherine would have enabled a good night’s sleep - essential for the hectic schedule.

This trip with Simon as our guide was more than expected. Simon has a real heart and passion for the area and looked after us so well. He’s a great cook and entertained us with stories and information about this area. We swam safely in waterholes, hiked, tried our hand at spear throwing and “bark” painting in the local style. The sheer magnificence of this area experienced in such a down to earth way was inspiring. On our last night Simon cooked dinner in the campfire and even made cupcakes for one of group celebrating her birthday. A truly memorable trip. Thank you!!

This was the most amazing experience, Leigh and Jay were our tour guides and they were brilliant. Great group of 13, everyone pitched in to help cook and clean. Chose this tour as it went everywhere on my bucket list plus some more!!! Some early morning starts - but well worth it. Great food, camp sites. Highly recommend this tour and WayOutBack, an experience you will never forget. Many thanks to the entire group for the help they gave me so I didn't miss out on seeing and doing some things.

Just completed this tour with Candace and Emma. Excellent experience. The trip was a great mixture of culture, native fauna and flora and energetic activity. Especially loved Jim Jim Falls and the Topdigz. Well done.

Rhett was our tour guide, and he is truly a credit to WayOutback. He was super organised, a great cook, easy going, good driver, super funny, great guitar player, and so passionate about indigenous and Australian culture. Even though we had to get up very early to fit in all the amazing sights to see, we enjoyed being woken up to Rhett's "alarm" which was him playing acoustic guitar (with sunrise themed songs no less). Our favourite sight on tour was Jim Jim Falls pool - if you can make it that bit further than the beach, it is SO worth it. It was a truly iconic spot. The food on tour was good, things like bacon & eggs/ pancakes/ toast/ cereal/ yoghurt for breakfast, sandwiches, burgers and wraps for lunch, and bolognaise, chicken & rice or steak and salad for dinner. Good balance of protein and veggies, and our vegetarians were also catered for. The tents were satisfactory although we only had in-tent power on one night (but there was always power in the mess tent to charge phones etc). We would definitely recommend Rhett and WayOutback, and would love to travel with them again!

What a great experience we had for our first visit to Darwin. We chose this tour because it contained most of the things we wanted to visit during our stay. Our guide was Rhett who was brilliant. He woke us up in the morning with an acoustic guitar solo, helped carry my water bottle so I had free hands to navigate the boulders on the way to Jim Jim Falls, gave us some great photography tips and his knowledge of nature, history, culture, astronomy and genuine enthusiasm and love for what he does shone through. This took this trip from what could have been a 3 star experience to a 5 star experience for us. We are forever grateful to Rhett for the wonderful time we had on this trip with our other companions. Thank you so much. Neil and Narelle. Shepparton (Yorta Yorta country).

My husband and I joined Jay Bichard on this incredible tour. Litchfield, Kakadu, Katherine and much more in between. Early starts were rewarded every day with stunning scenery, comfortable campsites and good simple meals prepared by jay, who ran the entire tour alone. I dont know where she gets her energy from … she’s a bloody legend. I ask everyone to support way outback by getting yourself on the next available tour, you will never forget it. Thank you Jay 😘

This tour was a life-changing experience and I felt so privileged and grateful to have had this holiday. Our tour guides, Jay and Robert, were abundantly passionate and knowledgeable about the region and made us all feel safe, entertained, educated and really cared about as they looked after all aspects of the tour. They were both fantastic cooks and catered for my vegetarian diet with tasty and nutritious food. Our tour had to be modified at the last minute due to COVID restrictions and the tour guides worked tirelessly to ensure we still had a quality experience. Being in the Kakadu bush was an absolute highlight. Going on bushwalks, swimming in waterholes, looking at wildlife and discovering ancient aboriginal art. The tour was well-organised, comfortable and relaxing the whole time. I enjoyed the tour so much, I would consider doing it again.

What an amazing tour. Our hosts Jay and Robert began by telling us that we were family, for the next 5 days... and that's how it felt. We were treated to an expert tour, with both Jay's and Robert's enthusiam, extensive knowledge, sense of fun and love of the outback both informing and rubbing off on the whole group. Indigenous Culture and ancient rock painting, Birdlife, crocs, plantlife , wonderful walks, swimming holes (no crocs in those 🙂) expert driving, exceptional organisation and fantastic meals are what Jay and Robert can offer (Robert is a born storyteller). As we were there, Kakadu went into Covid lockdown, but not only did Jay and Robert provide us with amazing alternatives to our cancelled plans, but ensured that everyone was able to catch flights home or get to hotels, with no problems. This will remain a great memory. Thanks Jay and Robert
