Itinerary

Day 1: Meet Yolngu guide and transfer to Yolngu Homeland. (Itinerary subjec to to change due to weather or cultural reasons))

Stop At: Arnhem Land, North-eastern corner of the Northern Territory Melville Bay Road, Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory 0880 Australia
Arrive Yolŋu Homeland where you will receive a traditional welcome to country and general orientation.

This afternoon your hosts will deliver a Yolgnu cultural class sharing and telling the story of the homeland.

Dinner & fireside chat.

If you are arriving Darwin and your flight arrives prior to 9.30am we will arrange to pick you up from the airport. If after this time you will need to arrive the day prior. Accommodation will be at your own expense.

Duration: 1 day

Meals included:

• Dinner
Accommodation included: Overnight at a Yolngu Homeland. hard structure or tent accommodation depending on the homeland.

Day 2: Cultural activities with your Yolngu hosts.

Stop At: Arnhem Land, North-eastern corner of the Northern Territory Melville Bay Road, Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory 0880 Australia
Cultural awareness talk commences - some areas covered may include:
• Yolŋu culture and kinship 
• Basic Yolŋu Matha language 
• Yolŋu law 
• Avoidance relationships 
• Yolŋu sign language 
• Activities such as spear fishing for men and weaving for women.
Duration: 1 day

Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Lunch
• Dinner
Accommodation included: Overnight at a Yolngu Homeland. hard structure or tent accommodation depending on the homeland.

Day 3: Cultural activities with your Yolngu hosts.

Cultural program continues:

Women may partake in weaving, painting and other activities

Men may partake in fishing, hunting, digeridoo making and other activities

Dinner & storytelling with Yolŋu families

Duration: 1 day

Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Lunch
• Dinner
Accommodation included: Cultural activities with your Yolngu hosts.

Day 4: Cultural activities with your Yolngu hosts. After lunch transfer to Nhulunbuy.

Stop At: Arnhem Land, North-eastern corner of the Northern Territory Melville Bay Road, Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory 0880 Australia
Cultural program continues. Farewell your Yolngu hosts after lunch.

Depart Yolngu homeland and travel back to Nhulunbuy
Duration: 12 hours

• Dinner: Group dinner at Walkabout Lodge (or similar) and debrief on your cultural adventure.
Accommodation included: Walkabout Lodge (or similar) shared motel accommodation. Single supplement available.

Day 5: Transfer to Gove Airport and depart.

Transfer to Gove airport
Duration: 30 minutes

DEPARTURE & RETURN
Traveler pickup is offered
If you arrive in Nhulunbuy the day before the tour date (due to flight schedules) we will still pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation.
If you arrive at Gove airport (Nhulunbuy) on the day of the tour, we will collect you from the airport and then commence the tour.

    Being in a Homeland community, being part of the Yolnja culture, learning about it. Being in a community that hasn't suffered such devastating colonisation like so many of Aust's indigenous cultures. Fantastic experience and humbling that these people are so welcoming.

    This has to be one of the best tours I have ever been on and that's many because i travelled all over the world. I learnt so much about the Aboriginal culture and the people were only too willing to to share their lives with us. I intend to travel with them again and hope I'll be able to meet some of the friends i made on this trip and make some new ones as well. Thank you to everyone who made this trip so memorable. Rachel was an excellent tour and most capable tour leader

    This was an amazing experience. We visited beautiful Nyinyikay Homeland and were warmly welcomed by the families who live there. We (the women) learned to find and use natural dyes and fibres, and spent many happy hours sitting with the Nyinyikay ladies, weaving and hearing stories. Meanwhile, the men went fishing and crabbing - and even selected a tree that, less than 24 hours later, became a didgeridoo. Howard, our tour leader, and Yolngu guides Noella and Kingsley were so knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend this tour.

    The Baniyala community were heart warming in their hospitality, enthusiasm and inclusivity in all aspects of the experience. The depth of sharing from daily life to sacred sites was immense and an honour. The amount of laughter and discussions so lively and kind, that it was a deep inspiration of what humanity is at our essence. Such a rich experience cannot be distilled in words but this is a worthy trip of a lifetime.
